Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about this head unit
Connect the single RCA cable with the yellow plug (included in your package) to extend your Bluetooth signal. This cable doubles as both a camera input AND a Bluetooth/WiFi antenna extension. The two small blue wires attached are antenna boosters that significantly improve connection stability. This simple connection takes 30 seconds and resolves 90% of Bluetooth issues. Make sure it's firmly connected even if you're not using a rear camera.
Try these proven solutions:
1. Quick Fix: Settings → Apps → Z-Link → Disable → Enable → Open (repeat each use)
2. Check Cables: Use the data/charge USB cable (not charge-only)
3. Bluetooth Setting: Disconnect all other Bluetooth connections - CarPlay needs exclusive access
4. Factory Reset Z-Link: Find the pink 'RESET' app, restart, reconnect Bluetooth, then try Z-Link
5. Sound Issues: Switch audio source to 'AUX' or 'USB/AUX' in your vehicle menu
Most issues are resolved with step 1 or 3!
The processor differs between models: The 2/32GB has a 4-Core processor, while 4/64GB and 8/128GB models feature the powerful 8-Core Cortex-A55 processor. Combined with RAM differences: The 2/32GB model with its 4-Core processor and limited RAM may experience slowdowns with heavy multitasking. The 4/64GB with 8-Core provides smooth performance for most users - no lag, seamless app switching, and enough storage for maps and music. The 8/128GB with 8-Core offers maximum performance with its generous RAM allowing unlimited multitasking and massive storage for extensive media libraries. Think of RAM like your desk space - more RAM means you can have more apps open simultaneously without slowing down.
Absolutely normal! These head units are complete replacement systems with their own GPS antenna, microphone, and Bluetooth module. Your factory connectors for these features won't be needed anymore. The important connections are: main power harness, speaker outputs, and the yellow RCA cable (even if not using a camera - it extends Bluetooth range). Any leftover factory plugs can be safely tucked away. If you're unsure about any connection, our support team is here 7 days a week.
Z-Link updates are handled through system firmware updates. Go to Settings → System → System Update. If an update is available, download it to a USB drive (FAT32 format) and install. Important: Never download Z-Link APKs from unofficial sources - they won't work and may cause issues. If you're having compatibility issues with newer iOS versions, the disable/enable workaround (Settings → Apps → Z-Link) usually resolves them while waiting for official updates.
Consider your usage:
• 2/32GB (4-Core): Budget option - fine for basic use, but may lag with multiple apps due to 4-Core processor and limited RAM
• 4/64GB (8-Core): Sweet spot - smooth Android Auto/CarPlay, multitasking, and ample storage
• 8/128GB (8-Core): Premium choice - unlimited multitasking, massive storage, future-proof for years
Most customers choose 4/64GB for the perfect balance of performance and value. The extra RAM makes a huge difference in daily smoothness!
The yellow RCA cable's blue antenna wires also boost WiFi signal! Make sure this cable is connected. Additionally, try these tips: Position the blue antenna wires away from metal surfaces, check that your phone's hotspot is set to 2.4GHz (not 5GHz) for better range, and ensure the head unit's WiFi sleep policy is set to 'Never' in Settings → WiFi → Advanced. For best performance with wireless CarPlay, keep your phone within 1-2 meters of the head unit.
Go to Settings → Sound → Equalizer and adjust to your preference. For more volume, increase the 'Loudness' setting. The 4/64GB and 8/128GB models have superior audio chips that provide cleaner, louder sound. If you have an amplifier, use the RCA outputs for best quality. Also check Settings → Factory Settings (password usually 126) → Audio settings for additional gain controls. Remember: higher-spec models (4GB+) include premium audio components for noticeably better sound.

Historical Progression of the Mazda 3 Series:
First Generation Mazda 3 BK (2003 – 2009):
Launched into the global automotive landscape in 2003, the original Mazda 3 replaced the earlier Mazda Familia/323 line, quickly capturing attention for dynamic handling, attractive styling, and overall reliability. Its relatively agile and spirited character differentiated it significantly from many compact competitors, earning admiration from global markets, particularly in Australia, Europe, and North America. The first-generation Mazda 3 developed a solid fan base due to its responsive driving dynamics, fuel-efficient engines, and thoughtfully designed interior that provided balanced practicality and comfort.
Second Generation Mazda 3 BL (2009 – 2013):
Building on its predecessor’s strengths, the second generation advanced considerably regarding both road manners and refinement. Mazda adopted more aggressive and expressive styling cues, following their evolving design philosophy. While performance and handling remained a consistent hallmark, the BL series noticeably improved the cabin quality, technology, safety equipment, and ride comfort. Its popularity flourished internationally as drivers and critics appreciated the harmonious blend of sporty character, efficiency, and an enhanced overall driving experience.
Third Generation Mazda 3 BM/BN Axela (2013 – 2018):
Debuting in late 2013, the Mazda 3 BM series received significant acclaim for further elevating Mazda’s renowned "KODO: Soul of Motion" design theme. Striking curves, sweeping lines, and a sculpted form created a particularly elegant and contemporary exterior that stood distinctly apart from traditionally conservative compact-class rivals.
The Mazda 3 BM era further introduced SkyActiv engineering—Mazda’s holistic approach to improving fuel efficiency, responsiveness, handling, and chassis rigidity—making the driving dynamics notably refined. While some international markets know this generation by variant name (BM early-period; BN facelift-period), the Japanese domestic market commonly retains the Axela name, continuing a heritage closely bonded with Mazda's domestic identity.
Key highlights of the Mazda 3 BM Axela era included advanced driving dynamics, exceptional fuel economy, balanced handling attributes, and streamlined interiors featuring enhanced ergonomics and comfortable cabin designs. Its internal ambiance further benefited from noise reduction and improved materials. Moreover, advanced safety technology like blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warnings, and automatic braking systems placed the Mazda 3 BM as an appealing mixture of style, practicality, safety, comfort, and connectivity.
Complementing the Mazda 3 with Modern Infotainment Integration:
Although renowned for quality manufacturing and thoughtful engineering, the Mazda 3 BM generation’s original infotainment options provided basic connectivity and functionalities compared to current more digitally oriented user expectations. Now, recognizing the essential role modern technology plays in driving enjoyment and practicality, aftermarket installations, such as Brummstadt’s premium head unit upgrade kit, offer substantial improvements over original factory entertainment systems.
Specifically designed to integrate smoothly within the vehicle dashboard and maintain familiarity with Mazda’s original interior styling, this aftermarket head unit offers sophisticated connectivity options—including reliable wired and convenient wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
The unit’s seamless smartphone integration allows drivers easy access to popular navigation apps—Google Maps, Apple Maps, and WAZE—providing invaluable navigational clarity and convenience. Imagine an evening spent enjoying a quiet dinner with family or friends; afterward, effortlessly accessing route directions through the phone before leaving the table. Upon entering the car, these directions transfer automatically via CarPlay or Android Auto onto the high-quality widescreen head unit display, simplifying the transition from dinner to the drive home—even in unfamiliar locations.
Additionally, this premium system supports optional 1080p HD front and rear cameras with recording functionalities—a valuable, safety-minded consideration that provides additional advantages for monitoring and capturing unexpected driving scenarios on camera, affording greater security, visibility, and evidence if necessary.
Beyond navigation and media, the upgrade elevates the automotive experience through creatively designed family-friendly entertainment possibilities. Multi-player gaming becomes possible by directly connecting compatible joysticks via the integrated USB ports—making long journeys or waiting periods pleasant and enjoyable moments for passengers.
Furthermore, intuitive intelligent voice commands provided by modern smartphone assistants extend dramatically beyond hands-free calling or music selection. For example, drivers or passengers might issue a simple voice command to Siri or Google Assistant like, "turn on the porch lights," in preparation for arriving home—a thoughtful integration of vehicle connectivity seamlessly connected to smart home practices that simplifies daily routines and enhances safety and convenience.
Benefits of Upgrading the Mazda 3 BM/ Axela Experience:
Appreciated globally, the Mazda 3 BM series is undeniably valued for the meticulous balance between spirited performance, elegant styling, fuel efficiency, road comfort, and advanced safety considerations. By integrating modernized aftermarket infotainment solutions, owners optimize driving satisfaction significantly. Technological compatibility with contemporary smartphones, increased entertainment options, intuitive voice control, and navigation improvements elevate the meaningful aspects of everyday driving for both drivers and passengers.
This convergence between an already sophisticated model such as Mazda 3 BM Axela, and modern aftermarket infotainment solutions available at Brummstadt, ensures owners remain connected seamlessly to everyday digital lifestyles, while ensuring improved convenience, functional flexibility, and pleasure derived from their driving environment.
